Why use Google or Microsoft to authenticate?
At CSIRO, the privacy and security of your information is our highest priority. We want to ensure that it’s you who is accessing your information. That's why we have selected Google and Microsoft authentication systems to secure your access to the programs and activities offered by CSIRO Education and Outreach.
Why do I need a Google or Microsoft account to apply for a CSIRO Education program?
To ensure a high level of security for participant information and give assurance people are who they say they are when logging in, CSIRO has implemented a two-step application process. The first step requires participants to identify themselves with an independent authentication system before using the CSIRO Education and Outreach portal. CSIRO has chosen Microsoft and Google authentication systems to provide this authentication step. You must choose one of these options.
I don't have a Google or Microsoft account, how do I get one?
Once selected, do I need to stay with my authentication provider?
Once you have successfully signed in, please remain with your selected authentication provider.
Is there some other way to register other than using a Google or Microsoft account?
No, you must select either of these options provided.
How do I apply for an Education Program?
Once an authentication option is selected you can move to the second step which is to set up your profile and submit your application - but we do need to authenticate that it is you who is accessing your information first.

How do I get started?
Click on your chosen authentication system provider via the buttons, and follow the prompts.
What happens after authentication?
Once you have completed the authentication process you will be returned back to our portal.
Can I use my personal email address on my profile?
After signing in for the first time, you'll be redirected to your Profile page. Make sure the email address on your Profile is the one you will check regularly. This can be a different email address to the Google or Microsoft email that you use for authentication. This will ensure you receive all of our important emails.
Can I use my work email to set up a Google account?
You may like to create a new Google account for your work email. Please follow the instructions to “Use my current email address instead” provided within the step-by-step instructions from Google
What if I forget my selected authentication provider?
Once you have successfully authenticated, we will send you an email to confirm your selected provider, keep this email handy for future reference.
I have an old Google or Microsoft account that I don't use too often - should I still use that account?
Yes, Google or Microsoft will detect if you have an old account, and ask you whether or not you would like to keep on using that account.
Can I use my existing school or organisation email address?
Yes, you can use your work email, make sure you remember which email you selected once you have authenticated.
Microsoft will not allow me to use my work or school email address?
On occasion Microsoft will state that you can't sign up with a work or school email address and advise you to use a personal email such as Gmail: Please enter a personal email address when you register, but then in your Contact details on your profile, you can actually enter your work email address.
I cannot see any Google or Microsoft buttons?
Your browser might require an upgrade to display the Google or Microsoft registration buttons, please upgrade to the latest browser version or use a different browser.
